About GITI
GITI (Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation ) is the first translation and interpretation institute to be founded by a national university in Taiwan. After four years of planning and preparation, GITI was established in August 1996. Approximately 500 candidates applied for admission in the first year, for 10 places. Although GITI now accepts up to 20 students a year, the acceptance rate hovers around 5% on average. Starting in 2003, GITI began offering the first Doctoral program in translation and interpretation in Taiwan.
Since its founding, GITI has attracted talented minds from Taiwan and around the world. The low acceptance rate and rigorous training ensure that students receive the attention and training they need to become skilled members of the professional T&I community. The dual emphasis on theory and practice gives our graduates the flexibility and skills to work and succeed in many different fields.
Mission Statement
Mission Statement
* To train professional interpreters and translators.
* To facilitate research in translation and interpretation studies.
Translation studies are inter-disciplinary by nature and should transcend the linguistic or technical level. As people, information, capital, and technology flow rapidly and frequently in a global world, translation has become more important in every aspect of communication and interaction among cultures. By collaborating with talented minds from the fields of literature, cultural studies, linguistics, psychology, information technology, media studies, management, sociology, and other disciplines, we can further explore how translation plays a part in human history and shape our future.
