#Dutch translator #Annelous_Stiggelbout, who translated #Sanmao’s Stories of the Sahara into Dutch, will share her experiences through a series of three sessions titled #Adventures_in_Translation during her residency. She will discuss the joys and challenges of working in translation. You are warmly invited to join us at the #Taiwan_Literature_Base this February, when spring is in the air, to explore the vitality of literary translation as it reaches out into the world.
【場次一 Session 1】臺灣文學在荷蘭 Taiwanese literature in the Netherlands

本次講座將介紹目前在荷蘭的臺灣文學翻譯作品，討論其中有哪些作品已經被翻譯為荷蘭文？這些作品在荷蘭的接受度如何？而當我們打算將更多臺灣文學作品引進荷蘭時，又將面對怎樣的挑戰？同時也將思索該如何提升臺灣文學在荷蘭的地位。
Lecture on the state of translated Taiwanese literature in the Netherlands: what has been translated? How have these works been received? What are the challenges in having more Taiwanese literature brought to the Netherlands, and how can the position of Taiwanese literature be improved?
【場次二 Session 2】翻譯三毛 Translating Sanmao

本次講座將分享翻譯三毛《撒哈拉歲月》一書的甘苦談，討論翻譯時遭遇的種種挑戰，以及與其他譯本（如英文、西班牙文、加泰隆尼亞文等）翻譯者的合作情形。此外，也將談及與三毛的親屬、讀者們會面交流的經驗。
Lecture on my experience translating Stories of the Sahara. Discussion of the unique challenges I encountered in translating this book; of the cooperation with the other translators into English, Spanish and Catalan; of meeting Sanmao’s relatives and Sanmao’s fans.
【場次三 Session 3】翻譯何以如此困難？ Now why is this so hard?

本次講座則將探討將華文翻譯成荷蘭文時所面對的困境，說明語言、文學和文化差異如何導致翻譯上的麻煩，也將分享在翻譯過程中採用的各種策略，怎麼將遇上的挑戰各個擊破。
Lecture on translating Mandarin into Dutch: how linguistic, literary and cultural differences create translation problems, and the various strategies I employ to resolve one problem after the other.
